Troubleshooting
Find the message that your agent shows, then do the steps under it.
Not signed in
The agent says “Sign in with GitHub to continue”, but no browser window opens.
- Open the MCP server list of your client. In Claude Code, run
/mcp. - Select
skill-setsand choose to authenticate or log in. - Approve access on the skill-sets.md page that opens.
- Ask the agent to check the skill-sets status. It shows your GitHub login when the sign-in worked.
In Codex, run codex mcp login skill-sets, then restart the session. Use the server name from your configuration if it is not skill-sets. The steps for each client are in Connect your client.
Out of credits
The agent says “This account has no directory calls left” or “This anonymous session has no directory calls”.
- Ask the agent to answer a skill-sets assessment. One accepted assessment adds 50 calls when you are signed in.
- If you are not signed in, sign in with GitHub. A new account starts with 25 calls.
If the agent says “This anonymous key has expired”, the anonymous session ended after 15 hours. Ask the agent to start again, or sign in. Read Credits, sign-in and assessments.
Connection failed
- Make sure that the URL is exactly
https://skill-sets.md/mcp. - Make sure that the transport is HTTP or Streamable HTTP. The server does not support the older SSE transport.
- If your client only starts local servers, use the mcp-remote bridge.
- Remove the server from your client, add it again, and restart the client.
The message “Too many MCP requests” means that the server limits your rate for a short time. Wait one minute, then try again. The message “not open for new connections” means that the server does not accept new connections at the moment. Try again later.
No results
The agent says “No skills matched”, or the results do not fit your task.
- Describe the task in a full sentence. “Write unit tests for a React form” works better than “testing”.
- Ask for more results. One search returns up to 16 skills.
- Ask the agent to include archived skills. These skills left their source and are hidden by default.
- Search the skills directory on the website for an exact name.
Other errors
The message “Something went wrong on the server” includes a reference code. Try again after a short time. If the error continues, open an issue and include the reference code.
